In February 2011, Engage Entertainment won a SAFTA for the programme: Sports Playback. This 13-part documentary series won the prize for Best Sports Show of 2010. A powerful case-study in effective re-versioning and repurposing of archive material, the show looked back at some of the most significant defining moments in South African history. Sports Playback was nominated alongside ‘My Beautiful Game’ and ‘The Miracle of Mzansi’ at the gala award ceremony held at Madame Zingara’s Theatre of Dreams

Sitcom
April saw the broadcast of Engage Entertainment’s very first sitcom. Since its debut, ‘Gauteng Maboneng’ has proved a sure-hit with viewers on SABC 1. Co-produced with Rous House Productions, the show has been well received by critics and viewers alike, resulting in excellent AR’s. Catch it on Wednesday at 19h30 on SABC 1
Engage Entertainment was commissioned to create a 2min brand promo for SABC 1. Positioning SABC 1 as Mzansi’s channel of choice, this ‘Mzansi for sho – reloaded’ promo encouraged viewers to ‘beware of cheap imitations’. Featuring a host of celebrities from across the entertainment spectrum, the promo illustrated the role that SABC 1 plays in the lives of the people of Mzansi. Featuring 9 locations and high-production values, the promo was described by then-SABC 1 General Manager, Ray Nkwe as “the best promo he’s ever seen for SABC 1”. A series of 9x15” cut-downs was also delivered to the channel.
In the build-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Engage-Entertainment was commissioned by the SABC to produce a comprehensive promo campaign to promote the world cup. This involved producing a range of 30”, 1’ & 2’ promos that profiled the 32 teams, 58 player profiles, promos for each of the round of 16, quarterfinals, semi-finals & finals. All in all over 100 promos were produced for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
