As the media landscape in South Africa continues to evolve, production companies will have to keep pace with an ever-changing environment. In the field of branded content, Engage-Entertainment has developed a broadcast product model called Original Brand Content, that marries the strategic needs of a brand with the power of story to affect sales-drive activations

Awards

In February 2011, Engage Entertainment won a SAFTA for the programme: Sports Playback. This 13-part documentary series won the prize for Best Sports Show of 2010. A powerful case-study in effective re-versioning and repurposing of archive material, the show looked back at some of the most significant defining moments in South African history. Sports Playback was nominated alongside ‘My Beautiful Game’ and ‘The Miracle of Mzansi’ at the gala award ceremony held at Madame Zingara’s Theatre of Dreams

Sitcom

April saw the broadcast of Engage Entertainment’s very first sitcom. Since its debut, ‘Gauteng Maboneng’ has proved a sure-hit with viewers on SABC 1. Co-produced with Rous House Productions, the show has been well received by critics and viewers alike, resulting in excellent AR’s. Catch it on Wednesday at 19h30 on SABC 1

Children: Puppet Narrative

Teddies:

A children’s puppet show produced for Afrikaans channel Kyknet, Die Beertjies siblings are Bennie, Bella and Bessie, three loveable characters who are the best and worst of friends in the fabled town of Drukkiedorp. The three unique personalities undergo a series of adventures to some life lessons, guided by their friend and mentor, the bushy tailed Bryan.

Zoomie:

Zoomie is a 260 x 12min children’s puppet series produced in Afrikaans and Zulu for Kyknet. Aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 9. The adventures of Zoomie the Bee and her friends unfold in the ecosystem under the canopy of a flower bed in a suburban garden. Zoomie the Bee, Abel Ant, Sissies Snail, Mannie the Mantis and Musa Mole meet constantly to play and have fun, share ideas and solve the problems they come across in their garden.

Do Ray Me:

Doh Rah Me is a 260 x 12min children’s puppet series produced in Afrikaans and Zulu for Kyknet. ‘Doh, Reh, Me’ is aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 9. ‘Doh, Reh, Me’ is a children’s hand/rod puppet television series about three musicians who are part of a band. Doh is a hare who plays the piano, Reh is a meerkat who plays the guitar and Me is a monkey who plays the drums. Other characters in the story include Mama G, the owner of the Baobab, the club that the group performs at, and Mathambo (Mr Bones), a hyena whose main objective is to catch and eat the three band members.
